Ben Torrance is devastated when his girlfriend leaves him in the middle of the night following the latest in a series of arguments about having a baby. Driven by love and fuelled by desperation, he embarks on a mission to find her. When he learns the truth – that Rhia had an affair and became pregnant by his best friend – Ben has to make a decision. Walk away from the woman he loves or give their relationship a second chance and bring up another man’s child.
Playground Cool is about a love triangle, lies and a secret pregnancy. But it’s also a fast paced and humorous journey to boot thanks to the snappy dialogue and optimistic outlook of the characters.
‘The story had me laughing, crying, getting angry, rooting for the underdogs and screaming at the lying, cheating sc*mbags!’
“I think it is a little grittier than the mainstream Chick-lit I have previously read and I personally think that actually makes it better. The author says himself in the blurb that it contains the obligatory “happy ending” but the stories are so well paced and structured that this feels neither fake nor forced in nature. The characters are so well formed and grabbed me enough for me to want to read more about them and that, for me, is a sign of a good book.”
“Playground Cool is a novel about relationships and the best word to describe them is “complicated”. However author Jamie Sinclair is firmly in control and leads all his characters to a very satisfying conclusion. He has a clear, direct writing style and the book is very funny in places. It’s highly entertaining throughout particularly related to the detailed observation that comes with some of the scene setting and context creation. It would make great holiday reading and is well worth a look.”
